How to book multiple orders at once - CSV batch upload

The CSV Batch Uploader is a great time-saving tool if you’d like to streamline processes (and if you’re not afraid of spreadsheets).

With this tool, you can upload and book up to 100 orders at the same time using a spreadsheet of delivery information. You then download only one file of labels and get back to your day.

Access the tool via your Sendle dashboard.

We’ve also included all the information you need to master the CSV Batch Upload Tool below:

First off: What is the Batch Order Uploader?

The uploader takes a CSV file of orders, books these orders with Sendle all at once, and then gives you one file of labels to download and print.

CSV stands for Comma Separated Values which is a format where data is separated by commas. Creating a CSV is simple using common applications your computer already has, such as Excel or Numbers. In most cases, it’s simply a case of saving your spreadsheet in one of these applications as a .csv file.

Input addresses correctly

When it comes to mastering deliveries, the most important thing to know is this: it’s all in the address. We use the mantra of: if you put in good addresses, you get out good deliveries… but if you put in bad addresses, you get out bad deliveries.

With this in mind, there are three things you need to get right:

  1. Addresses.
  2. Volume and/or weight of each parcel.
  3. Delivery instructions.

So, let’s make sure you’re nailing it from the start:

1. Addresses

There are many ways to write addresses, but there’s only one way that works for our delivery partners.

Sendle’s booking system cannot verify if the address you enter is real (only that the suburb/postcode is serviceable).

This means that you must master a few important address components:

  1. Input the street name and number in the first field: sender_address_line1 and receiver_address_line1

  2. Input any descriptive information, like level, in the second field: sender_address_line2 and receiver_address_line2

  3. Input the business name in the company field: sender_company and receiver_company

  4. Use a matching suburb and postcode.

The three examples we’re using below use the format and show you the right vs wrong way to lay them out:

Company

Address line 2

Yes No Why?
10/60 Hopewell Street
Surry Hills

10/60 Hopewell Street
Sydney

The suburb and postcode must be a matching set. Sydney’s postcode is 2000, Surry Hills’ postcode is 2010.

2. Volume and Weight

The combination of each parcel’s weight and volume is used to determine the price of each delivery.

The volume or size of your parcel is calculated like this:

Parcel_measurements.png

  1. Measure the length, width, and height of each parcel in metres. E.g. 1.1m (height), 0.2m (length), 0.2m (width)
  2. Multiply these dimensions - height (m) x width (m) x depth (m) e.g. 0.2m x 0.2m x 1.1m = 0.044
  3. The result is the cubic volume of your parcel e.g. 0.044

Sending international? You do not need to provide a volume measurement, but your parcels must fit within the size guidelines for international sending.

The weight of your parcel is calculated in kilograms. Input the weight of your parcel without the measurement e.g. 0.25 or 5 (not 5kgs, or kilograms). This article about sizes and weight limits might be useful too.

3. Delivery Instructions

Delivery instructions are used to help the delivery driver leave the parcel in the most convenient location, or get a signature on the first attempt.

If you are unsure if the receiver of your parcel will be home on the day of delivery, it is best to leave clear and concise delivery instructions.

Keep in mind:

  1. Authority to leave: Allows the driver to leave the parcel on the property without a signature.

  2. 500g A4 satchels must have blank delivery instructions (these are counted as authority to leave automatically). If you provide delivery instructions for A4 satchels, they will be upgraded to a shoebox size.

  3. You have 100 characters maximum for delivery instructions.

Where to upload my file?

To upload your correctly formatted CSV, tap 'send a parcel' on your dashboard. At the top-right, toggle the button from 'single' to 'batch'. Or, hit 'Batch Upload' at the top right from your dashboard homepage.
