This article will give you the basics on exporting your parcels from Canada to the U.S.
Booking an order
- Book your parcel the same way you would book a domestic shipment through the Sendle dashboard – just choose the U.S. as the destination country from the drop down menu. Please also make sure your items aren't on our list of things you can't Sendle!
- If you're sending consumable items to the U.S., you will need to submit Prior Notice to the FDA. This may also mean attaching an extra label from the FDA to the outside of the parcel. We've put more info in this article as well.
- Keep in mind our maximum merchandise limit is currently $1,000CAD when shipping to the U.S. We recommend checking for any other regulations or merchandise value limits for your eCommerce marketplace as well.
- Please note weight and size limits for parcels traveling from Canada to the U.S. (maximum length: 22 inches; maximum volume: 1728 cubic inches; maximum weight: 20 lb).
- Print your label and attach it securely to your parcel. Keep in mind that our Canada to U.S. labels only show partial receiver address info. This is completely normal, and nothing to worry about.
- On the scheduled pickup date, as always remember to separate your parcels by the carrier info on the label.
- Have your parcels ready for collection before 8am. Parcels will be collected from 8am-4pm.
Keep in mind: Make sure the receiver's address is correct, as we are unable to return the parcel to the sender.
Additional requirements
To help us deliver your parcels as quickly as possible and avoid delays or penalties, it’s essential that you correctly declare the following information:
✅ Country of manufacture – This is where the product was made, not where it’s being shipped from. This needs to be declared in the order form and be marked legibly and correctly on the item/s. For more information on acceptable forms of marking, please refer to the US Customs & Border Protection guide here.
✅ HS Codes – These codes help classify your goods for customs. The right codes reduce the risk of unexpected fees, delays, or even returns.
Note: some products like food, cosmetics, medical devices need FDA approval before they can be imported, so make sure you attach any FDA Prior Notices to your parcel before shipping.
✅ Item values – Additional tariffs and duties may apply depending on the value of your item. US customs will determine any duties, which will be charged to the receiver.
✅Receiver details – It’s mandatory to include the phone number and email address for the person receiving the parcel so that we have the correct contact information, if needed.
